Before you begin, keep in mind that the programs within the Division of Journalism are considered Limited Access Programs at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. This means that SJGC admission standards are higher than the university’s. Available freshmen seats may be limited and access to those seats is competitive based on high school performance. Specifically, freshmen applicants to the Division of Journalism must have a 2.5 high school GPA and a minimum 1010 SAT/21 ACT score.
If you do not meet these requirements, but you have been accepted to FAMU, you must
complete 30-35 semester hours in general education requirement courses, maintain a
2.5 overall GPA and earn at least a 2.5 GPA in freshman English composition courses
to be admitted as a journalism major.
If you meet these requirements or feel that you are on your way to meeting them, start
learning about the application process.

A transfer is any student who has attended a college/university and has earned 12 or more semester hours. SJGC will accept a maximum of 6 credit hours from a non-accredited journalism/mass communication program and up to 12 credit hours from accredited programs at the discretion of the dean.
Many paths lead to the SJGC. We will consider applications from international students, military and veteran applicants, and returning applicants. Choose the process that best fits your needs.
