Safe and comfortable housing is essential to focused learning, and the Winning Foundation is dedicated to making sure housing is not a worry for students at FAMU. We are excited to begin our application process and give out our first housing scholarships this summer. We have already heard from many students who are eager to apply, and we are eager to help.
For our inaugural scholarship class, current FAMU students in the School of Education, School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC), and the Athletic Department are eligible to apply. We plan to expand eligibility as funding
The SJGC Scholarship fosters academic excellence by awarding financial support to high achievers who are currently enrolled as journalism, public relations and graphic design majors.
The SJGC Assistance Program was created to aid full-time SJGC students experiencing financial hardships. Students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits and major in a program within the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication.
The Comcast Corporation and NBCUniversal News Group have awarded FAMU SJGC a grant to support our goal of educating future journalists and content creators and advancing diversity and equity in media. Grantee students will have a track record of (i) academic achievement, (ii) working in support of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and (iii) creating content reflective of diverse communities that provides insight into contemporary challenges. A specific goal of this grant is to support enrolled students who are experiencing financial hardships. These funds may be used to help mitigate these hardships upon a student’s request. Funds may also be used to support professional development and academic opportunities for students.
The Florida Society of News Editors (FSNE) has launched the Florida Emerging Journalists Fund at FAMU SJGC. The purpose of the fund is to strengthen the pipeline of diverse journalists in Florida newsrooms. FSNE will fund two $2,000 scholarships each year for a minimum of four years.
