The network of SJGC alumni is powerful, diverse and close-knit. When you enroll at SJGC, you join a community of alumni who work at the highest levels in journalism, communications, public relations, digital media, graphic design and related fields. We are proud of their accomplishments. Whether they graduated from our undergraduate journalism, public relations or graphic design programs, our alumni support each other and our students.
The Thelma Thurston Gorham Distinguished Alumni Award salutes outstanding alumni for their professional and personal accomplishments, community contributions and support of the school.
School of Journalism & Graphic Communication alumni are working in all aspects of the media and include Grammy, Emmy, Peabody, Addy, and Associated Press Award winners.
School of Journalism & Graphic Communication alumni regularly give back to their school through charitable giving that helps the school offer students scholarships, state-of-the-art multimedia equipment, and in-depth educational experiences. They also show support by assisting current students in launching their careers through professional internships and job and mentorship opportunities. Every year, alums return to their alma mater to participate in Grads Are Back, a large-scale networking and seminar event. The annual event kicks off Homecoming Week on FAMU's campus and showcases panel discussions featuring prominent alumni and project presentations by current students. The event is one of the ways that the SJGC Board of Visitors helps connect alumni to the school. Board members, spanning several decades of journalism education, also assist with fundraising and other outreach efforts.
The SJGC recognizes distinguished alumni through its Thelma Thurston Gorham Distinguished Alumnus Award. Recent inductees include ESPN Commentator Tiffany Greene and City of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Alumni can stay connected through the SJGC Linkedln Page by updating their LinkedIn profile to include "Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication" under education.
