Accreditation

Journalism

The  Division of Journalism was the first journalism program at a historically Black college or university (HBCU) to be nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) in 1982.

The ACEJMC is the agency responsible for evaluating professional journalism and mass communications programs at colleges and universities. The Division of Journalism was reaccredited in 1988, 1994, 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2020.

We proudly celebrate full accreditation, earned by meeting the following eight ACEJMC standards:

  • Mission, governance, and administration
  • Curriculum and instruction
  • Assessment of learning outcomes
  • Diversity and inclusiveness
  • Faculty
  • Student services
  • Resources, facilities and equipment
  • Professional and public service
