As the first accredited program of its kind among the nation’s HBCUs, the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication sets the standard in print, broadcast, digital, and visual media. Since its founding in 1982, SJGC has consistently received high marks for the quality and impact of its programs and graduates. SJGC students are among FAMU’s highest-achieving scholars and have earned regional and national honors for their work across multimedia platforms, including awards from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences College Awards, Edward R. Murrow Awards, Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Media Awards, American Advertising Awards, Hearst Journalism Awards, and many others.

Dean Mira Lowe is the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. She previously served as assistant dean for student experiences at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. While at CNN Digital, Lowe was the senior editor for Features and oversaw various editorial initiatives, partnerships and multiplatform opportunities, working closely with research, sales and product teams. Before CNN, she was the editor-in-chief of JET magazine, becoming the first woman to helm the venerable African American newsweekly. Dean Lowe is a shaper of ideas, a motivator of people, and an innovator who builds new things.
Dr. Felicia McGhee is a professor and associate dean of Curriculum and Student Success in the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. She previously served as the head of the Communication Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she managed the daily operations of a department with more than 400 majors and minors and supervised 20 full- and part-time faculty and staff. She also taught courses on writing for various media platforms — newspaper, radio, television, and web — and instructed students on how to use diverse software programs. Dr. McGhee has over 13 years of professional experience as a TV reporter, anchor and host.
Dr. Elaine Bryant is associate dean of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs in the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication and assistant professor in the School of Business and Industry. Dr. Bryant is also the CEO and president of a consulting and training business - EWBRYANT ASSOCIATES. Dr. Bryant has over 25 years of expertise in managing fiscal affairs and human resources at three State of Florida agencies, city government and non-profit organizations. She specializes in leadership strategic visioning and community outreach planning and implementation. Dr. Bryant is a motivational speaker who has been given a gift to inspire her audiences to pursue and take hold of all that life has to offer. She speaks to various audiences at conferences, conventions and meetings with a humorous, down-to-earth approach.

The school’s faculty provides engaging scholarly, relevant, and research-based instruction to more than 500 undergraduate majors.
