FAMU TV begins its live newscast on Monday

By Jasmina Lahens

Preseason for FAMU TV20 newscast students started a few weeks ago with mock shows to prepare for this semester’s first “TV20 at 5” live newscast on Oct. 2. The mock shows allow them to practice their positions and roles as if they were actually on air.

Shay Simon, live shot anchor, said:
“I feel like we will be prepared by the start date. The mock shows help us get acquainted with one another and comfortable with our roles.”

Kalisha Whitman, a broadcast journalism professor and TV20 news director, works with the students to help sharpen their skills.

“I work around varying (degrees of) greatness,” Whitman said. “None of the students are mediocre. My only expectation is the students embody the Rattler spirit and produce products that showcase excellence with caring.”

Sports anchor Jessika Ward is confident about their showing on Monday.

“Yes, I think we will be ready by Oct. 2,” Ward said. “I am especially excited coming on board as a new anchor. I tried out a few times before finally getting it and my advice to students who want to be on air is to continue to try out even if you don’t get it the first time. Your work ethic will speak for itself.”

TV20 News at 5 begins airing on Oct 2 at 5 p.m. on FAMU TV20.
