FAMU SJGC Welcomes 40 new students to the Hill

Tallahassee, FL - The School of Journalism and Graphic Communication welcomed more than 40 new first-year students to the Hill on Thursday, July 11. SGJC provided them with academic advising, tours, and an orientation to the degree programs offered within the School. Professors William Jiles, Ranata Hughes and Anosh Gill provided details on each of the majors we offer during the orientation.

SJGC’s new coordinator, Academic Support Services, Denee Glenn, assisted in providing hands-on advising to each student.

A visiting parent was impressed by the care given their students and gave positive feedback, especially regarding Hughes and Glenn.

“FAMU has two gems in these ladies,” they said. “I hope you will recognize them for their dedication not only to FAMU but also for their compassion.”

In anticipation for the student’s arrival, all the staff including Gwendolyn Parker, Cyndy Ulee, Christian Whitaker, and Bart Christner, contributed to beautifying the building, preparing student advising folders and welcome packets, and supporting the work of the school.

“I want all of our students to feel this kind of love and customer care. And I want to ensure we provide this level of attentiveness to all of our students and visitors to the SJGC. And to each other! I’m excited at the upcoming year ahead and the ways we will continue to demonstrate “Excellence with Caring,” Dean Michelle Ferrier said.
