Concert for Peace

Concert for Peace

By Junon Jean

On Sunday at 6 p.m., the FAMU Concert Choir and the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee Choir will host the Concert for Peace.

During the concert, a love offering will be collected and contribution made to the Florida Baptist Disaster Response Team.

“The purpose of the concert is to raise money for victims of the hurricanes and other natural disasters,” said Jeremiah Carter, a senior public relations student and a choir member at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee.

This is the first time that the Concert for Peace will be held at First Baptist, although both choirs have performed together before.

Penny Folsom, the music minister at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, is preparing to make this a successful event.

“I have a lot of respect for Mark Butler and for the choral program he has established at FAMU,” Folsom said. “They have sung several concerts at First Baptist in the past and have just bowled us over with the energy, passion, and excellence in their music.”

Both choirs will perform separately and then combine for renditions of “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
