Florida Virtual School® Board of Trustees Approves Lady Dhyana Ziegler as New Board Chair

ORLANDO, Fla.  (Jan. 27, 2015) –  Today, the Florida Virtual School (FLVS®) Board of Trustees announced that Lady Dhyana Ziegler, DCJ, Ph.D., has been voted in as the new Chair of the FLVS Board of Trustees. Ziegler, who served as Vice Chair of the FLVS Board of Trustees for the past four years, will become the Chair effective immediately. She succeeds Michael Olenick, who recently stepped down as Chair of the FLVS Board of Trustees when he was appointed by Governor Scott to the State Board of Education.

Ziegler, a 25-year veteran of higher education, is a four-time Governor’s Appointee to the Florida Virtual School Board of Trustees.  She is currently the Garth C. Reeves Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair of Excellence in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University.  Prior to that appointment, she served in several administrative positions including Acting Vice President for Research, Assistant Vice President for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, and Interim Director of the Office of International Education and Development.  Ziegler has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions including being knighted as a Dame of Justice in England in 2008.

“It has been an honor to serve as Chairman of the FLVS Board of Trustees for nearly two years and to be a part of all that FLVS does to serve students with excellence,” said Michael Olenick, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees for FLVS. “The knowledge and experience Lady Dhyana Ziegler brings to the position will help FLVS to continue the drive to significantly impact education.”

“I am truly honored to be named Chair of the Board of Trustees for Florida Virtual School.  To be able to serve the institution and the State of Florida in this role is a real privilege,” said Ziegler.

In 2013-14, Florida Virtual School students completed more than 433,900 semester enrollments, helping FLVS reach a milestone of 2 million semester completions in the state of Florida.  FLVS Global has extended its reach to students and clients in all 49 states outside of Florida and in 65 countries worldwide.

“FLVS is a crown jewel in virtual education, not only for the state of Florida, but the entire world, as we continue to expand our outreach and goals to deliver quality online education across the globe,” said Ziegler.  “I am proud of what FLVS has accomplished throughout the years and I only envision continued success.  The best is yet to come.”
