Hillary Speed

Hillary Speed is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida A&M University and is passionate about helping young communications professionals find their way and improve their writing skills. She has a bachelor’s degree in history and American studies from St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism. Her wide-ranging career has given her opportunities in the journalism and public relations fields, with some small stints in advertising as well. She was the founding editor of an award-winning niche newspaper for teenagers published by the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa. She worked for years at Minnesota Public Radio as a content producer for “A Prairie Home Companion” and “The Writer’s Almanac.” She worked for three years as a feature writer and multimedia journalist at the world headquarters of the Associated Press in New York. She has maintained an active freelance career throughout the years, providing content for myriad news outlets and clients from WhatToExpect.com to Time Inc. to Real Simple magazine. Before arriving in Tallahassee, she taught for 10 years at Oklahoma State University.
