Knight Chair for Student Achievement

Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication invites applications for a non-tenured, fixed-term appointment of up to five years for a Knight Chair for Student Achievement. Candidates should have recent experience as a practicing professional journalist with digital skills and a reputation for quality. Preferred candidates also would have experience in leadership and mentoring. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline and college-level teaching experience are preferred but not required.
With this position, it is the intent of the Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication to encourage the participation of practicing professionals in the School’s teaching and service program and to endeavor to prepare journalism students for employment in journalism. The successful candidate will teach and coordinate the development and implementation of programs and activities that facilitate students’ fluency in the digital journalism skills in demand in today’s job market. He or she will partner with newsrooms to establish internships to help students obtain work samples. The candidate should be able to create opportunities for résumé and interviewing training and for networking with alumni, journalists, media company recruiters and journalism groups. The Knight Chair in Student Achievement should be a dynamic individual capable of helping raise the employment rate as a whole for the graduates of Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication who seek jobs in media.

- Versed in: Digital-first news practices, multi-media storytelling software, data journalism, including data visualization, social media management and Web design.
- Network of professional connections as well as experience as a hiring manager in a newsroom.
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree required. Master of Arts or Master of Science degree and/or equivalent professional experience preferred.
