Senior Graphic Design Student Elijah Rutland secures a 2020 Addy Award for Graphic Design and is selected for Beats By Dre Black Futures Program

Battle of the BandsSenior School of Journalism and Graphic Communication student Elijah Rutland continues his success in the realm of Graphic Design. In March Rutland applied and won his first Addy Award for his unique illustration of the rivalry between Florida A&M and Southern University. During the 2019 football season Rutland produced several illustrations that depicted the Rattlers Saturday matchup on the gridiron.

Recently Rutland was selected as part of the Beats By Dre Black Futures Program in the Customs Creator Position. With this position he will be designing a headphone for the Beats 2021 Black History Month Collection. He will also be working directly with the Beats design team as he creates the headphones and matching packaging.Beats by Dre

“This is definitely one of my biggest accomplishments and collaborations so far and I am extremely blessed and grateful for the opportunity,” said Rutland on his Instagram as he announced this accomplishment.

Rutland and his business have not only taken “The Hill” by storm but social media as well. The Macon, Ga native not only has Fix My Sole but also is the creator of the extremely popular Black Rolf Meme and was even selected as an Animation Intern for Warner Brothers Animation. While working for Warner Bros. Rutland worked on background painting for Aquaman: King of Atlantis. Rutland is the premier example of an artist. He not only is a graphic artist but also designs FAMU related apparel and also customizes signature shoes and clothing.

In an Interview with Beats Rutland made sure to discuss how important the story of the design is perhaps the most important part. He stated how without a story the design won’t matter. For him the story is key, and Rutland definitely has stories to tell.
