Jackson State University name SJGC Alumna Alonda Thomas VP of University Communications

Starting July 6, Alonda Thomas will begin her new role with Jackson State University as Vice President of University Communications.

Apart from her new role with Jackson, Thomas will be responsible for brand and reputation management, media relation, and strategic communications.

“It is an honor to join President Hudson and the Jackson State University community to serve as AVP and chief communications officer. I have a passion for celebrating the work of our historically black colleges and universities because they are intricately woven into the African-American experience of success, resilience, and pride,” said Thomas.

Thomas is coming off an awe-inspiring year with Howard University, where she served as director of public relations. She was responsible for media relations strategies and worked to enhance the university’s reputation and national visibility. Recently, she was named one of  PRWeek’s Women to Watch and PRNews’ Top Women in PR.

Thomas is a Miami native and earned her Bachelor of Science in public relations from SJGC. After leaving FAMU, Thomas received her master’s in integrated marketing and management communications from Florida State University.
