FAMU SJGC students have swept the 2019 regional ADDY Awards for the second straight year.

Graphic communication students from the state’s only public HBCU earned 22 top awards in graphic design and sales/marketing collateral work, beating last year’s wins of 18 top awards at the local level.

The ADDY Awards, known as The American Advertising Awards, honors excellence in advertising and creative design. The awards ceremony is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation.

“We push our students to submit their work in regional and national award competitions because we know they are producing great work. And it shows,” said FAMU SJGC Dean Michelle Ferrier. “Regional professionals have consistently awarded our FAMU students gold and silver in categories across the board."

Student Malkia Peterson said she was elated and surprised to be awarded Best of Show in the student category.

“When I first won a gold ADDY Award at the reception, I was nervous and a little surprised,” Peterson said. “While I was confident in the work we did for the magazine, I was a little unsure if it would win gold. I was elated that it did so well!"

Ferrier said The Best of Show win showed what can happen when graphic communication students partnered with the journalism students to “create the awesome design and layout for Journey Magazine.”
