Florida A&M University Alumna and graduate of the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication Caryn Wilson promoted to Weekend Audience Editor for the New York Times.

Apart of her new role Wilson will work with a team that will set goals for their weekend audience and use various methods to determine ways to enhance their readers experience.

“I’m excited to start in this brand-new role at The Times where I will work with newsroom leaders to think creatively about opportunities for audience growth on the weekends,” said Wilson. “The Times has always invested in me and I’ve had several interesting jobs during my nearly 10 years as a professional journalist.”

Wilson was promoted after her run on the Politics Desk as Senior Politics Editor. She joined the NYT Politics desk in 2019 as the engagement editor where she focused on voter voices and alternative story forms. She was a pivotal part in growing her team’s audience while a leader in live coverage.

“Caryn was a real leader helping develop audience benchmarks and goals for the Politics desk and marrying that with a strong vision about reaching new and different groups of readers and viewers with our report, through story forms, social, search, and compelling and diverse story content,” said Patrick Healy, Politics editor.

Wilson has been a part of the NYT since joining as an intern on the Foreign-National Copy Desk in 2011. In 2017, she became a senior staff editor responsible for the production, promotion and presentation of breaking news at night. Since the beginning of her career she has continued to improve and become a leader on every team since joining The Times.

She graduated from SJGC in 2010. While on “The Hill” Wilson was also Editor-In-Chief of our bi-weekly student run newspaper, The Famuan.

As stated by Healy, Wilson has been a pivotal aspect of their success since arriving on the team. She plans to bring that same success into her new role as she builds their audience and become a leader once again on the Audience team.
