Recent Florida A&M University (FAMU) graduate Austin Dixon makes his mark and takes home hardware from the 2020 Intercollegiate Broadcast System Media Awards. In March, Dixon traveled to Manhattan and received the award for Best Sports Update.

For 80 years IBS has strived to highlight and honor the best work as well as up and coming high school and college students in media. IBS honors excellence in programming, high school and college radio stations, and on-air personalities.

Current WANM-FM Director Terrance Ward was impressed and ecstatic about Dixon’s award because of all the outstanding work he does for the station.

“Austin is such a hardworking young man…It was great to see him grow as a journalist and apply his love of sports to broadcasting,” said Ward.

Dixon won the award for his work with WANM-FM 90.5’s weekly segment known as PrimeTime Sports. PrimeTime sports highlights the top news across the sports world.

During his academic career Dixon was heavily involved in SJGC and held several prominent positions within student media. He served as the Sports Director for WANM, as well as the Sports Editor for the FAMUAN newspaper. His work at WANM also included being a part of the weekly sports talk show, The Playmakers.

Dixon continues to produce content and is looking past The Hill for his future endeavors and plans to continue to produce exciting and fresh stories.

“My future plans are for me to expand my horizons beyond just being a journalist and to become a content producer that tells the stories that nobody sees,” said Dixon.

Dixon graduated Spring 2020 with a B.S. in Journalism and during his tenure was a dedicated student of SJGC. Dixon added to WANM-FM 90.5’s list of IBS Media winners. In 2019 WANM brought home two trophies including, “Best Spot News Coverage” and “Best Use of Instagram”.
